Tottenham have confirmed Dejan Kulusevski has undergone knee surgery one week out from their Europa League final clash with Manchester United.

Kulusevski took a blow to his knee during Sunday’s 2-0 Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace and was substituted after just 19 minutes, though boss Ange Postecoglou subsequently played down fears over his condition.

However, on Wednesday, a club statement confirmed he had undergone surgery, though Spurs stopped short of ruling him out of next week’s final in Bilbao.

“We can confirm that Dejan Kulusevski suffered an injury to his right patella in our Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace last weekend,” Tottenham said on social media.

“Following further specialist consultation, the midfielder has undergone surgery today and will commence his rehabilitation with our medical staff immediately.

“We’re all with you, Deki!”

Kulusevski only returned to action last month after recovering from a foot injury, playing in victories over Eintracht Frankfurt and Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League quarter-finals and semi-finals.

Kulusevski has made 50 appearances in all competitions this season, with 35 of those being starts. He has played a total of 3,449 minutes, ing 10 goals and 11 assists.

Only Dominic Solanke (23), Son Heung-min and James Maddison (both 22) have bettered Kulusevski’s total of 21 goal involvements for Spurs this campaign.

Kulusevski is not the only injury concern for Spurs ahead of next week’s final, with Maddison and Lucas Bergvall out for the season, though captain Son returned to face Palace after a month out with a foot problem.

Tottenham, who are 17th in the Premier League table, face Aston Villa on Friday in their final match before the final.
