According to several sources, Florian Wirtz has informed Bayer Leverkusen that he wants to Liverpool this summer.
Wirtz, one of the most sought-after attacking midfielders in the game at the moment, was of vital importance for everything Leverkusen have done under Xabi Alonso, including the winning of the Bundesliga title in 2023/24 by going the entire length of the campaign unbeaten. With two years left on his contract, Leverkusen reportedly value his services at €150million – a whopping figure which appears to have deterred some of his potential suitors.
The race thus came down to two clubs – Liverpool and Bayern Munich, but even in Munich they are now aware that the 22-year-old prefers Anfield to the Allianz Arena as his destination.
Wirtz is believed to have already accepted a contract offer from the Premier League champions, who now need to find an agreement with Leverkusen over the size and structure of the fee. It seems the deal could include a player going the other way, with the Bundesliga side seeking additions for several squad departments.
