Ajax keeper Maarten Stekelenburg is keen on a move to Roma, according to his agent Rob Jansen.

Roma have stepped up their interest in the Netherlands international, having recently made a €6 million bid for his services.

The Giallorossi was close to completing a deal for Espanyol keeper Carlos Cameni, but have reignited their interest in Stekelenburg after the move fell through.

The player’s agent has now revealed that his client is eager to Roma.

“Maarten would like a move to Roma, otherwise I would not be having talks with the club,” Rob Jansen told Voetbal International.

Jansen revealed that the two clubs were not even close to reaching an agreement.

“The negotiations are not progressing smoothly. The two clubs are some distance apart but there will be further talks today in Amsterdam. Ajax have not yet set a deadline.”
