Agnes Beever-Jones kept Chelsea’s quadruple hopes alive as her stoppage-time goal sealed a 2-1 comeback win over Liverpool in Saturday’s Women’s FA Cup semi-final.

Chelsea came from behind to equalise in the first half, and Beever-Jones settled the tie at Kingsmeadow in the 94th minute when extra time was looming.

Sonia Bompastor’s side dominated the early stages without troubling Liverpool goalkeeper Rachael Laws and found themselves behind in the 21st minute.

Marie-Therese Hobinger split the Blues’ defence with an excellent throughball, with Olivia Smith latching onto it before guiding a low shot into the bottom-left corner.

Hannah Hampton denied Hobinger with a fine near-post save shortly after, but Chelsea found an equaliser in first-half stoppage time. Erin Cuthbert benefitted from a deflection to lob the Laws, who was only able to help it onto the inside of the post and over the line.

Laws denied Beever-Jones and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd after the break, and Liverpool almost grabbed a winner against the run of play when Taylor Hinds struck the bar with a wayward cross in the 90th minute.

Yet Beever-Jones had the final say, rising high to meet Sandy Baltimore’s cross and sending a looping header over the wrong-footed Laws.

Data Debrief: Blues march on

Chelsea had to do it the hard way, but the Women’s Super League leaders have ensured they are still in with a chance of winning the quadruple.

They will play their eighth FA Cup final on May 18, as they aim to win the competition for the sixth time, which would move them t-third in the all-time winners list.

The Blues piled the pressure on Liverpool, who were looking to reach a first FA Cup final since 1996, having 24 attempts worth 2.93 expected goals (xG), though they only managed four attempts on target.

Match-winner Beever-Jones was the driving force in their attack, having six of those attempts (two on target), accumulating 1.3 xG herself, capping off a brilliant week in which she also scored her first England goal.
