According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are closing in on the g of Liam Delap from Ipswich Town. The London Blues are set to trigger the £30million release clause in the player’s contract and are waiting for official communication from Ipwich at the moment.
Delap was reportedly a target for Manchester United as well, but the Red Devil’s failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League – which Chelsea have done by winning the Europa Conference League – has weighed in on his decision to reject them and move to Stamford Bridge instead. Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca is said to be an irer of the 22-year-old striker.
Ipswich signed Delap last year from Manchester City for £15million, but his 12 goals and two assists across 37 Premier League appearances in 2024/25 couldn’t help the team avoid Premier League relegation. He is, however, obviously determined to continue playing at the highest level.
