According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen have verbally reached an agreement in principle over the transfer of Florian Wirtz. The Premier League champions will pay up to €150million (add-ons included) for the services of the international, who is now set to undergo a medical, before g a contract with his new club.
Manchester City and Bayern Munich were also interested in Wirtz, but the 22-year-old attacking midfielder informed them both that his heart is set on Liverpool, reportedly after a series of conversations with Liverpool head coach Arne Slot.
However, with Leverkusen demanding a hefty fee and not being willing to budge very much, the negotiations have taken quite a bit of time to reach this point.
Wirtz, one of the heroes of Leverkusen’s unbeaten run to the Bundesliga title in 2023/24, made a total of 197 appearances for Die Werkself in all competitions, scoring 57 goals and contributing 65 assists.
