Milan part ways with Conceicao after just six months in charge

AC Milan have sacked coach Sergio Conceicao after just six months in charge of the Serie A club following a disappointing season.

Former manager Massimiliano Allegri – who spent four years in charge at San Siro between 2010 and 2014 – is reportedly set for a return.

Conceicao was appointed in December as a replacement for Paulo Fonseca, taking over a Milan side who were eighth in the table and 14 points adrift of the leaders.

The former Porto manager got off to an impressive start, winning the Supercoppa Italiana with a victory over Inter in just his second game at the helm.

However, results in the league did not improve under Conceicao, with Milan knocked out of the Champions League in the play-off round by Feyenoord.

Milan’s last hope of salvaging the season ended earlier in May with a 1-0 defeat to Bologna in the Coppa Italia final, as they finished eighth in the Serie A table.

It also saw Milan miss out on European football for the first time since 2019, while rivals Inter are preparing for the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain.

Across his 31 matches in charge in all competitions, Conceicao won 16 matches (D5 L10), managing 1.71 points per game.

“The club would like to thank Sergio and his staff for their commitment, professionalism and dedication in leading the team in recent months,” Milan said in a statement.

“The Rossoneri family bids farewell to the coach who contributed to the conquest of the 50th trophy in Milan’s history, wishing him the best for his future.”
